When God Let Go Powerfully

“Oh God, would You rip heaven open and come down? You act for the one who waits for Him.” Isaiah 64:1, 4

We are just a few weeks from the greatest event that has ever taken place on planet earth – the resurrection of Jesus Christ! I got to thinking that this would be a huge moment for us who have been waiting on God for a revival igniting all around us!

But this requires us to exercise the greatest discipline to revival – waiting. Revival is a massive move of the Holy Spirit on God’s people in order to impact others with the glory and grace of God.

When God’s people decide to wait on God to move, I believe that He is touched by their hunger for His divine presence and His dynamic power. When we wait, we are empowered to overcome the flesh that can destroy us, the impulses that can derail us, and the fear that can deter us. At Pentecost, the disciples waited in the upper room until heaven opened and the Spirit came upon them. Would you agree that this experience changed those believers forever? Listen, because those early believers held on patiently, God let go powerfully!

And that’s a perfect prescription for revival!

I love the word that Isaiah wrote, “Thus says the High and Lofty One Who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy: ‘I dwell in the high and holy place, with him who has a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones.’” (Isaiah 57:15-16)

This is encouraging because it’s clear that if we prepare the sacrifice of a broken heart, God will bring revival fire. I love the truth in the lyrics in a popular worship song that states, “When all hope is gone and Your Word is all I’ve got, I have to believe You still bring water from the rock.”

The Bible says, “The eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show Himself strong on behalf of those whose heart is loyal to Him.” My question to all of us is key: if revival breaks out today, will God find us seeking Him, or running from Him? There is nothing more painful than seeing a believer running from God. But there’s always hope no matter where you find yourself today!

His call is to the prodigal. “Return to Me, and I will return to you.” (Malachi 3:7)

His call is to the exhausted. “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28)

His call is to the fearful. "The peace of God…will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus." (Philippians 4:7)

His call is to the barren. “He who believes in Me, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.” (John 7:38)

If you’re not where you’d like to be today, God’s love and mercy is continually calling you back to His grace!

God bless you,

Pastor Dave
