Contentment Challenge
"Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for He has said, 'I will never leave you nor forsake you.'" Hebrews 13:5
Our world that we live in is driven by discontentment! The current events we all see play out before us remind us that unsettled time can create unsettled hearts. And then if not controlled, this life creates anxiety, fears and a level of dissatisfaction that can begin to haunt us. The Bible is filled with examples that show us and teaching us that contentment is a precious blessing from God!
God wants us to be content so that we can be protected from a great deal of heartache. We all know how our carnal nature and our human reasoning can cloud our thinking.
I find the words of Solomon so practical when wrote in Ecclesiastes 5:10 "He who loves silver will not be satisfied with silver; nor he who loves abundance, with increase. This also is vanity." From his failed places in life, this wisdom is powerful because he knew that money and possessions do not bring a person true happiness. As the old phrase goes, "Hindsight is always 20/20."
God is not a God who wants us to live miserable lives. He wants us to have good things in our lives, as obey His Word.
Too often, people fill their homes with things that they might enjoy for a sort time but then either throw them away or put them on sale at a garage sale. Do you know friends or family who live solely for the abundance of things? I think we all know that discontentment can turn into is a miserable taskmaster!
Not being content drives us to lose all reasoning and we abandon the peace we need in this world. Peace is not found in the abundance of stuff around us, but rather it's in the abundance of Christ in us!
He promises to bless us and fill us. He knows how to satisfy our hearts better than the world. Jesus is the lover of our soul, can material things do that? No way! As we follow His path in life, He will bring supernatural contentment deep into our hearts and minds!
God bless you,
Pastor Dave
