Kindness Can Do Amazing Things
“As the north wind drives the rain, so does an angry countenance, and a backbiting tongue.” Proverbs 25:23
As many of you know, Janice and I bought a home. We had the owner Kim (not her real name), sign the property paperwork over to us. We went to Parker to have the title put in our names. A couple weeks later we had to go to back for redo the paperwork. A few days after that a gentleman called and stated we need the second person on the title to sign the title too.
We contacted Kim and she said that would be Barb (not her real name) who lives just a few homes from us. So Janice took the paperwork over to her house, but then Barb got very rude and harsh with Janice, saying, “I’m not signing anything…I’m very mad at Kim!”
So this left us thinking, “Now what!”
As we tried to solve the issue, it appeared to get worse with Barb again saying she was not signing anything. Janice and I prayed for a resolution to this situation. All the while, lot's of thoughts went through our heads.
While having lunch just a few weeks ago, I asked God again to show me that everything would work out. We just needed some reassurance on this issue.
Just then there was a knock at our door, and it was Barb! So we asked her to come in, and then she said that she was very sorry for the way she acted and was willing to sign the paperwork.
And then Barb talked about how messed up her life is, with her husband’s illness, and some other issues. I told her that we had already forgiven her. We gave her our phone numbers and told her to call us if she ever needed to talk, or if I could talk to her husband about Jesus.
And by the way, Barb told us her son, who is a homosexual, advised her to come to us and make things right!
Man’s ways and God’s ways of dealing with those who hurt us, dislike us, or turn against us are entirely different. When dealing with an enemy, our natural reaction is to get even some way.
God’s approach to solving most of our problems in life is to be kind to the person, even though an enemy’s behavior doesn’t warrant kindness. As Proverbs 25:21 says, “If your enemy is hungry, give him bread to eat; and if he is thirsty, give him water to drink.”
The first thing we struggle with in many cases is our pride! It shouts to us, “Don’t show weakness. Their treatment really hurt me!” Let me say, treating the opposition kindly and overcoming the flesh’s desires takes character, control, and Christlikeness!
I think we fail to remember that kindness can do amazing things to another person! In many cases, undeserved kindness can stir the wrongdoer's conscience. A bad situation is often changed because we show undeserved mercy to another.
None of us deserves any kindness from a God we sin against. Let’s not forget the bountiful mercy He pours out on us. Before salvation, we were enemies of God, but He forgave us!
God bless you!
