Nic At Night
"For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life." John 3:16
No other verse in the Bible perfectly summarizes God's relationship with humanity and the way of salvation. It could be said that it is the theme verse for the entire Bible. John 3:16 tells us of the love God has for us and the extent of that love — it's so great that He sacrificed His only Son on our behalf. It teaches us that anyone who believes in Jesus Christ will be saved. And it gives us the hope of heaven through the love of God and death of Jesus Christ.
This verse is part of Jesus’ late-night conversation with the Jewish rabbi, Nicodemus, explaining the importance of being "born again" which emphasizes the role of the Holy Spirit in leading people towards that experience. Just think, God gave Nic at night the most popular, most memorized Bible verse in all the Bible! And did it rock his world!
Many think that being "born again" is experienced through baptism, good works, or church membership, but Jesus said that it's the work of the Holy Spirit transforming our dead spirit. Because of our sins we are dead in our sin and only God can transform us from darkness to light!
The world with all its brokenness and sinfulness is the recipient of God’s love. God powerfully and perfectly loves this world with all its vices and wounds.
God not just loved the world, but God loved it in a superlative manner - "so loved." The emphasis on "so" is important, because God in Christ did not love this world half-heartedly, partially or temporarily, but loved this world so much! The strength is in the love of God for this world. God did not "so love the world" because of this world’s perfection, but in all of its imperfections. God demonstrated the length and depth of His love beyond measure - unrestricted, unrestrained, unbound, unconditional, unimagined and even unexplained in human words. And to top it all off, God's love is unending! Yes, He loved you yesterday, loves you today and He will love you forever!
There's a call for us to be living testaments of John 3:16! That means living, risking and offering this supernatural love to this restless world. May the God of love, the God of John 3:16 be with us as we live to love.
We are excited that Sunday is 3:16 on 3/16. We will be celebrating God's love as written in John 3:16. We also have several people sharing what it means to them that God loves them.
Invite your friends and family to experience a special day!
God bless you,
Pastor Dave
