Mind Games
We can all think of someone who is walking through tough circumstances right now. Or maybe you feel like you are sinking in sickness, struggling with pain, suffocating in addiction, stressing with tension. These are days that can play mind games on our thinking.
My message to anyone struggling with life right now – don't give up on God! If a cloud of heaviness has settled over you or someone you know, don't let this stop God’s purpose. There is hope and help for anyone!
One of the great ways we can find hope and help is by going to that quite place with God. What did David do when he felt like he was sinking in a pit of depression? He took refuge in God's presence. He said in Psalm 55:16, "As for me, I will call upon God, and the Lord will save me. Evening and morning and at noon, I will complain and murmur, and He will hear my voice." David found the best therapy in worship. He poured out his soul to God and he renewed his trust in God alone.
Don't let Satan's assaults wear you down in your mind. Pray and sing to the Lord. God will give a refreshing word that can override the lies of the enemy. Singing can lift darkness, and praying can lift discouragement. Being still can remove the heavy clouds of worry. Remember the Bible tells us that if we resist the devil, he will flee from us. That’s great news!
I also want to encourage you to not engage in the warfare alone! I pity the lonely person who has no friends in the day of battle. David said he had 37 "mighty men" who fought with him and helped protect him.
If you want to overcome discouragement, we all need "foxhole buddies" who are willing to help carry burdens and help with encouragement. This is the beauty of a healthy church in our lives. We are never alone in our trials, tension, temptations, and tribulation because God has placed us in His spiritual family.
Lastly, when the mind games are lingering and Satan tries to discourage us, take authority of his triggers. I believe that Satan knows how to pull our stings so we will doubt God's promises, question our identity, weaken our mind, and stress us to the hilt. We can't submit one minute to his psychological warfare.
Get this, Goliath's taunts didn't dampen David's zeal, Sanballat's threats didn't pull Nehemiah off the walls of Jerusalem; and the self-righteous Pharisees who criticized Jesus' every move didn't stop Him from showing compassion to hurting people. The Bible is filled with heaven’s heroes who fought the fight, shielded the lies, and rebuked the evil that lurks around us.
Remember as I’ve said before, we never fight for victory, we fight from victory! Paul tells every believer in Christ that they are more that conquerors in Christ and I believe that’s a reality because he also tells us that we have the mind of Christ! So let's take authority over the mind games of self and Satan today!
God bless you,
Pastor Dave
