Do You Want More?
“Oh God, we are desperate for more of You. Will You revive us again so that we can rejoice and experience Your power and presence in our lives?” Psalm 85:6
A desire to truly experience God should run deep within our heart. But too many times we think that God is either elusive or impossible to please. But to the thirsty spiritual pilgrim, God’s presence is a fresh spring of life. At times, and I get it, we stop striving for it, and we let His word fade away to the back of our minds? When was that last time we really pursued God like never before?
In Ephesians 5:8, Paul tells us to “be filled with the Spirit.” The filling of the Spirit is God’s work, but we must submit by emptying ourselves. There can be many fillings of the Holy Spirit (Acts 4:8, Acts 13:9) because we are leaky vessels. But thank God for His grace as it works to powerfully shore up the leaky places in our lives!
When our hearts are revived and awakened to the things of God, dead churches come alive with joy and praise, and carnal Christians sense the Spirit’s conviction concerning their barrenness, bitterness and selfishness. This is the whole cry of David in the above verse.
Isaiah said that he “saw the Lord sitting on a throne, high and lifted up, and the train of His robe filled the temple” (6:1). What a wonderful picture of God's majesty and power. The size of the train on the robe speaks of the authority of the King. What an awesome sight to behold!
Contrary to popular belief, if Jesus walked into our church this Sunday, I doubt that we would applaud His presence. While that’s not a bad thing, but I think we would find ourselves confessing the same thing as Isaiah, “Woe is me, for I am undone!”
Isaiah’s soul was set on fire for God that day! Are we on fire for God? If we’ve drifted from His presence, let’s take Isaiah’s powerful example and his personal declaration, “Here I am, send me” to heart. When Isaiah was rocked and shaken by his complete unworthiness, he finally broke down and was cleaned deep in his spirit.
Full surrender is the only way to recapture the power of the Spirit and to stop the leakiness within us. Like Isaiah, we’ve been bought with a price, and that means we must surrender to our King.
Let’s take time today, and throughout the week, to experience the overflowing presence of the Holy Spirit and His purifying power. And then we can say together, “My spiritual eyes have seen the King, the Lord of hosts.”
God bless you,
Pastor Dave
