A Seismic Sift

“The night is far spent; the day is at hand. Therefore let us cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armor of light.” Romans 13:12

Did you know that 50 years ago, the majority of Christians lived in the West, with the remainder living in Africa, Asia, and Latin America? Today, the center of Christianity is now drastically changed with over 70% of all Christians living in Africa, Asia, and Latin America.

This shift is not surprising to me because according to Pew Research, only 19% of Americans go to church once a week. Now factor in what was reported last week, there are now more atheists in England than there are Christians!

This is a massive problem! Not only are Christians missing out on their purpose in this world, Christians aren't getting the message of Christ to the world. In fact, it's currently estimated that over 3 billion people have never even heard the truth about Jesus Christ and His love for them! Research is now showing that 85% of Muslims, Hindus, and Buddhists don’t know a single Christian!

I think we can agree that scores of Christians need to wake up and see the purpose of our lives is to follow Jesus and make Him known in our cities and around the world.
So, the good news is that Christians have more opportunities than ever to change this potentially dangerous slump Christianity is experiencing in the West. Our lives can count for what really matters. So, what needs to change?

As Pastor Paul reminded us in his sermon, the truth can set the sinner free! But let’s not forget that truth can also set the saint free! For too long, the saints of God in America have been asleep at the wheel. Interestingly, just 70 years ago Christianity used to steer the moral compass and the political course in our country. It was just a few years ago when Christianity was encouraged in our culture. But today we are seeing the media turn on Christianity, politicians run as far away from it as possible, and Hollywood dumbing down the portrayal of a godly man or woman!

Let’s set the record straight! We don’t need media and politicians on our side! They can demean Christians and deny our biblical world view, but we know that truth is always greater than lies! Pastor Paul again shared Sunday, that lies create doubt, deception and then denial. This says a lot about the current condition of Christianity in America!
Let’s not forget that we have the privilege of living the truth for people to see, and we have the power to speak the truth for people to hear, so that means that truth can do what lies can never do – set people free!

I close with what I said in my sermon Sunday night, “America is being shaken financially, socially, sexually, politically, and spiritually. What will come of this shaking? For me, I still believe in repentance for the sinner, revival for the church, renewal for the family!”

God bless you,

Pastor Dave
