A God Moment

“The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.” John 3:8

Is America experiencing a God moment? Will this moment turn into a God movement? Only time will tell.

Just a few years ago America’s EKG showed very little spiritual life, but in the last 6 months there seems to be signs of spiritual life.

In December, The Wall Street Journal reported that Bible sales were up 22% in the U.S. last year. But what’s very interesting is the fact that the number approached 14 million, and get this, most sales were with first-time buyers!

Professional football players are standing up for their faith like I haven’t seen in a long time. Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh proudly led his team in the Lord’s Prayer. It sure does seem like more and more athletes are including God-talk on and off the field.

This God moment is evident even with atheist Richard Dawkins and secularist Elon Musk when they both recognized the importance of Christianity in our Western culture to the point that both have used the phrase “cultural Christian” to describe themselves.

Lastly, popular psychologist and author Jordan Peterson often references Scripture, and he just released a 500-page book attempting to draw lessons and meaning from the Old Testament. And America’s most popular podcaster Joe Rogan recently interviewed Christian apologist Wesley Huff as he gave a reason for faith in Jesus Christ. And by the way, over 14 million people listened to that episode!

It’s been said that “God moves in mysterious ways.” I firmly believe we are witnessing that very fact! We are now seeing the emptiness of secular intellectualism in the hearts of millions in our country. So could it be that America is on the verge of embracing deeper faith in God, and even deeper faith in the Lord Jesus Christ?

Twenty years ago, the New Atheists promised a coming utopia declaring that “God is dead!” America was even debating statements like, “What’s so good about God?”

This is the season to take as much advantage of this God moment! And the best way for that to happen is for God’s Church to boldly fill the empty hearts with the gospel of Christ! For 2000-year this pure gospel has never fail the Church or the culture. It has satisfied the sinner, sanctified the saint, and healed the hurting. The Church must be faithful teaching grace, mercy and love. I believe that we have every reason to believe that this God moment can turn into a God movement if believers will be the visible invitation of the invisible Christ! After all, we know that God’s Word will not return void!
