A Great Act of Faith
“As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, as you have been taught, abounding in it with thanksgiving.” Colossians 2:6-7
One of the greatest acts of faith that we can ever perform is to say, “Oh God, no matter what, I will praise You and bless You for all things!”
Maybe right now it’s harder than ever to find your something. There’s a lot of negativity and despair circling around us. I really believe that we can thank God no matter what’s happening in our lives, our families, or our wacky world. Perhaps you’re thinking, “So what do I have to give thanks for?”
We can thank the Lord for His plenty. The Bible tells us that God’s people do not lack any good thing from Him. Just think how abundantly loved we are, how abundantly cared for we are, and how abundantly content we can be in Him. As I said Sunday, “Contained in God’s abundance is the seed of contentment for everyday no matter what goes on around you! There is more contentment in Christ than in any other person of the ages and more satisfaction in the Scriptures than found in all the wisdom of the ages!”
So the way I see it, contentment in Christ strengthens our commitment to Christ.
We can thank the Lord for His providence. When we come into a relationship with God, everything that happens to us is known by God, and He is working in and through it all. Romans 8:28 says, “And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.” Once we are saved, no matter what happens to us, we can write Romans 8:28 over anything!
We can thank the Lord for His purpose. This world is a wilderness to every Christian, and it is God’s plan that we walk through it – not that we somehow escape it. God leads us through the wilderness on purpose – to humble us, prove us, and strengthen us! As Adrian Rogers once said, “You don’t sharpen an ax on a pound of butter; you sharpen it on a grindstone.” So we can thank the Lord for His purpose, leading us through life to make you mature.
We can thank the Lord for His presence. Wherever we go, the Holy Spirit is with us. When was the last time we thanked God for His presence? Moses gave a powerful reminder to his people, and maybe this thanksgiving season we need to hear his words too, “These forty years the Lord, your God, has been with you, and you have lacked nothing.” Deuteronomy 2:7
Thank God today for His goodness!
Have a very blessed Thanksgiving Day!
