Key To Our Success

“I rise before dawn and cry for help;
I have put my hope in Your word.”

Psalm 119:147

I can still remember my football practices as a kid - they were brutal at times. And I remember most of them as being grueling, agonizing and dreadful. They had tons of running and repetitive drills.

Our practices were not marked by complexity but by simplicity. We went over the basics in every practice. Coach Harold stressed the fundamentals of the game. Those fundamentals were the key to a strong team.

If fundamentals are the key to success for sports teams, then what would be the fundamentals of being on God’s team? What are the basics that our Head Coach, Jesus Christ, would want us to do?

Legendary football coach Vince Lombardi, while holding a football in front of him, said to his Green Bay Packers: “Let’s start at the beginning. This is a football.” In the same way, I think Jesus stands up in front of us each day and holds up the Word of God and says, “This is a Bible.”

I believe that Jesus desires to transform our lives by applying the word of God to our lives throughout this new year!

Psalm 119:147 “I rise before dawn and cry for help; I have put my hope in Your word.”

Everyday Jesus positioned Himself for success as He spoke to the Father and took His word into His spirit! This is as fundamental as we can get with our relationship with God.

Mark 1:35 “Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where He prayed.”

It can be a daily battle to pick up the Bible when we’ve got so much on our to-do lists. That’s because our enemy doesn’t want us to spend time daily in the Word. He knows that if we do, our lives will be transformed, and others’ lives will be transformed. He’ll do anything to prevent that from happening. He’ll throw everything he can at us to stop us from cracking open the Book of Truth.

But if we want clarity in our thinking and spiritual success in life, it always starts with the Word of God. Focus on the spiritual fundamentals. Oswald Chambers said, “Simplicity is the secret of seeing things clearly.”

Let's get going and dive in! Open it, read it, study it, meditate on it and linger in it. Let God's word soak into your spirit. So let’s start from the beginning. “This is a Bible! And it's for your success!”

God bless you,

Pastor Dave
